Plastic free: Shopping Bags #3

My visit to the recent EPIC Sustainable Living Expo was like striking ‘no-plastic gold’. There were 5 booths that heralded ‘no-plastic bag’ options.

I bought these cotton alternatives from BringYourOwnBag.ca, a Vancouver, BC, Canada entrepreneur. It’s too bad they don’t handily fold up into a tight little bundle that fits in your purse or pocket like the ones shown in this British video, but hey, they do the trick.

I bought them mostly because they are so damn cheeky and help me spread the message of my mission to live plastic-free in 2007.

Plus, since they are made from cotton, they are more biodegradable then the other nylon options out there.

$40 (CDN) for 2 is the price ya gotta pay to be this earth-friendly. But hey, it’s worth it.

I have to admit, when I go shopping with one of these puppies slung across my shoulder, and my handy wire shopping basket in tow, I feel like a true Eco-Warrior. And one crazy lady!

It's just EnviroWoman's way of making an eco-fashion statement!

Something to consider when opting for cotton products. As much as cotton itself is much more biodegradable than plastic, the production of cotton includes tons of evil-polluting-non-biodegradable chemicals and feul product... Patagonia did a study on the impact of cotton and other materials and found that going organic with cotton is the only solution for this. The information and links to the study can be found on the following link:

I too am attmpting to avoid plastics in my life.. one big question: how do I avoid plastics with yogurt and dairy products? This is a hard one.
A bigger question: how to avoid plastics and have a baby....

Why is it exactly that the bags are so expensive? When I was in Germany these cotton bags were 1€ = $1.25 US.

Those bags are pretty sweet. I'd like to see more tote bags around London, where plastic bags spill across the streets like tumbleweed. I've designed a few, which aren't nearly as cheeky as yours...

If you care to, check it out and let me know what you think.

Love your blog - inspirational. As for the yogurt, you can make your own? But then the milk comes in plastic containers... unless you buy it in cartons?
